Disney World during hurricane season? Don’t panic—it’s not a vacation ruiner! Here's your guide to navigating rainy days at Disney World like a pro.
☔ Why You Need a Rain Plan for Disney World
Let’s be real: rain is very common in Florida, especially during hurricane season (June through November). A rainy forecast doesn't mean your trip is doomed—but it does mean you’ll want to be prepared. Here's exactly what to expect when it rains at Disney World, what to do, and how to make the most of your day—whether you're in the parks or hanging at the resort.

🏨 Rainy Day Fun At Your Disney Resort
Sure, the pool may close temporarily if there's lightning nearby, but the fun doesn't stop there. Disney resorts are ready for rainy days. Most on-site resorts will shift the action indoors with activities like:
Coloring stations
Trivia games
Dance parties
Even surprise character pop-ups (yes, indoors!)
This is especially great if you have kids who need to burn energy when the weather keeps you inside. Just check with the front desk or cast members in the lobby to find out what's happening!
Tip: Rainy days are the perfect time to slow down and soak up the magic at your resort—grab a snack, explore the gift shop, or even do a little pin trading indoors.
🎢 Rain in the Parks: What to Expect
Good news: the Disney parks don’t shut down just because it’s raining.
Here’s what usually happens when the skies open up:
Indoor rides continue to operate. Attractions like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Rise of the Resistance are business as usual.
Outdoor rides may temporarily close during heavy rain or lightning—but often reopen quickly when it clears.
Light rain? Fireworks will usually still happen.
Stormier weather? Fireworks may be canceled, and the Skyliner will shut down for safety.
Important Skyliner Tip: If you’re staying at Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Riviera Resort, or Yacht & Beach Club, keep in mind that the Skyliner will pause service in bad weather. Buses will be available as a backup—but lines may be longer.
Magic Kingdom Bonus: On especially wet days, you might even catch the Rainy Day Cavalcade, a rare treat with characters waving from covered vehicles. It’s a little bit of Disney magic just for those who stick it out!

Pro tip: I work with a trusted stroller rental company that includes rain covers with every stroller—because trust me, you don’t want a soaked seat when it’s time to roll.
🌦️ What If There’s Rain in the Forecast?
Keep in mind:
Most storms in Orlando are short and fast.
Rain is often heaviest in the afternoon, so hit outdoor rides early if you can.
Some days, the rain lingers—and that’s okay too! You can still have an amazing day if you pack your patience (and a backup plan).
🏁 Final Thoughts: Yes, You Can Do Disney in the Rain
Rain doesn’t ruin Disney—it just adds a different kind of magic. A little flexibility and preparation go a long way.
So, pack your poncho, your positive attitude, and maybe a dry pair of socks—and you’ll be golden. ✨
