Disney Cruise Line now offers guests the opportunity to visit two private island destinations in The Bahamas, but while both feature beautiful beaches, family-friendly activities, and plenty of Disney magic, they're actually very different experiences.

When comparing Castaway Cay vs Lookout Cay, the question isn't which destination is better—it's which destination is the better fit for your family.

What Is Castaway Cay?

Castaway Cay is Disney Cruise Line's original private island destination and has been a guest favorite for more than 25 years. When most people picture a Disney Cruise beach day, they're usually imagining Castaway Cay. What Is Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point?

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is Disney Cruise Line's newest destination, located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. Should You Choose Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay?

One of the most common questions I receive is, "Which is better: Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay?"

The truth is that neither destination is better—they're simply different. If your ideal beach day includes snorkeling, bike rides, and a classic Disney island atmosphere, you'll likely love Castaway Cay. If you're interested in learning more about Bahamian culture while enjoying beautiful beaches and colorful surroundings, Lookout Cay may be your favorite.

The good news? There isn't a wrong choice.

Both destinations offer incredible beach days, excellent food, family-friendly activities, and plenty of opportunities to create unforgettable memories.

Will I Miss Out If My Disney Cruise Doesn't Visit Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay?

Not necessarily.

While both destinations are incredibly popular, plenty of Disney Cruise itineraries don't visit either private island destination. Depending on the sailing, you may instead visit ports throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, or other destinations around the world.

I always encourage my clients to choose a cruise based on the overall itinerary, ship, travel dates, and vacation goals—not just whether it includes Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay.

For some families, a sailing that visits one of Disney's private destinations is a must. For others, a different itinerary may be a better fit.
